goodly designs for the average tasteful chapMaking your own Signature
A signature, or siggy, is the name for the appearance (including the avatar, colors and fonts) of a post on a board. Its really easy to learn how to make your own, and kind of fun.Your signature should look like something like the following if you haven't changed it at all yet (Click for full view):
Now, the image above is lacking quite a bit. Below is a picture of what a complete signature looks like, with all the parts possible. Again, click for full view.
I'll identify each part and explain about them.
First, in red:
1. Top Signature
The 'top signature' is everything that comes before the stuff you write (NeoHTML).
2. NeoHTML
NeoHTML is the stuff you write.
3. NeoSignature
What comes below everything you write.
And now in blue:
4. Avatar
Your avatar is a little 50x50 image. You automatically have ones featuring all the pets, but "secret avatars" can be unlocked by doing certain things on neopets.
5. NeoTitle
Its just a random blurb of text that appears there. You can change it on the board preferences page.
6. Account Age/Gender
Here the age of your neopets account and your gender are displayed.
7. Active Pet
Your active pet is shown here.
8. Username
And finally, your username is shown at the top.
Now, after all these shenanigans, you might think this is harder than you thought, but truth be told, you're halfway done. 8D
You change your signature at the board preferences page, which is located here. There are a bunch of boxes there, and in each box you can edit parts of your signature or change some setting.
We shall go through the boxes.
[groan]
First box is titled Avatar. The default (the one it starts as) is yellow with stars on it. Browse through the drop down list and find one you like. Then click on it. The image to the right of the list should change to show you what it looks like. When you're satisfied, move onto the next box.
This one is called NeoTitle. Select a random phrase from the list and then move onto the next box.
Here's where it gets a little harder. This box (called NeoHTML/NeoSignature) is where you change your top signature, you NeoHTML, and you bottom signature. Any experience with HTML would come in handy here, but it isn't necessary.
Not all signatures have a top signature to them. This first signature you're going to make will have one. I'll show you how to make one without a top signature later.
First off, we're going to start with this:
[fontf=facec=colors=size]Text[fontf=facec=colors=size]NeoHTML[
All this will go into NeoHTML input box (you know, the long thing box you can type stuff in).
Now, it does look awfully confusing, right? So I'll break it up by color coding it, and you can see if that makes any more sense.
[fontf=facec=colors=size]Text[p][fontf=facec=colors=size]NeoHTML[
If you focus only on one color at a time, things may make a bit more sense.
You see, where I wrote 'size' you're supposed to write the size of the text you want. And where I wrote color, you're supposed to write the color of the text instead. And the same goes for face. You write the name of the type-face or font family (like times, or Georgia) you want.
Another thing you might notice, is that it says stuff like:
f=face
c=color
s=size
And there's some eerie correlation between the letter before the equals sign and the word that follows. They start with the same letter. And that because "f" stands for face, and "c" for color, and so on. Are you catching on?
In essence, "f=face" is equivalent to the sentence:
The face is face.
And if you put in a type-face, you get the more logical sentence:
The face is arial.
So really, all you have to do is fill in the blanks. Once you do that, you'll get something like:
[fontf=timesc=reds=5]Text[p][fontf=arialc=greys=1]NeoHTML[
You should notice that you're asked to specify the color, size, and face of the text twice. This is because the first time you are changing the appearance of the top signature, and the second time you are changing the appearance of the NeoHTML. Also, a few little notes: You have to have the word NeoHTML in there like it is above, otherwise it won't work. Also, the open bracket after NeoHTML is there to get rid of the dotted line in the default signature. And finally, [p] basically means "skip a line".
Now you have to do your signature. If you don't know, things like "[fontc=red]" and "" are called tags. One opens and one closes. You need to close all the tags you make, and we still haven't closed the tag that we started just before NeoHTML. The first thing we have to do now is close some stuff.
In the NeoSignature input box, type in the following:
]
That closes the opening bracket that came after NeoHTML and the one before it. We can forget about those now.
If you want to skip a line, add in [p] right here, so your signature should say this:
][p]
Now we have to make an opening tag that says what the signature is going to look like. It'll say what the font, color, and size is, like before. Add this to your signature code: [fontf=facec=colors=size]Signature
Edit the words color, face, and size just like before. Change the words Text and Signature to say whatever you'd like. When you think you're satisfied, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Submit. A preview of your signature will appear on the page.
Leaving out Parts
The NeoHTML is the only part of the signature that has to be there. If you want to have no top signature, your siggy code would look like this:NeoHTML: [fontf=fontc=colors=size]NeoHTML[
NeoSignature: ][p] [fontf=facec=colors=size]Signature
If you were to leave out the NeoSignature but not the top signature it would look like this:
NeoHTML: [fontf=facec=colors=size]Text[p][fontf=facec=colors=size]NeoHTML[
NeoSignature: ]
And if you leave out both, it will look like this:
NeoHTML: [fontf=facec=colors=size]NeoHTML[
NeoSignature: ]
Tidbits More
To center your text, type in before everything else in your NeoHTML box, and after everything in your NeoSignature box.Also, you can make your text bold, underlined, and italicized with the following tags.
bold
italic
underlined
And, finally, to make your text small and at the top, type: [sup]Superscript[/sup]
And for small and at the bottom: [sub]Subscript[/sub]
