Creating dotted lines on photoshop

Watch the Video

Creating a dotted line with photoshop is remarkably easy, but not everyone knows how to make one. Here's a quick tutorial on how to.

Go into photoshop and select the brush tool. In the topbar along with controls like brush size and type there should be a sections that says "more options", followed by a clickable paintbrush.

If you're having difficulty finding the button, click here.

Click on the button and a menu like the one as follows will appear.

We're only looking at the highlighted yellow part. Inside it is a sliding bar that you can use to select the spacing between each dot that makes up a paint brush stroke. If you think about it, a 19px brush is just a bunch of circles with a diameter of 19px overlapping to form a line. By sliding the bar to the right you increase the space between each of these circles, and if you move the dial past 100%, then the circles will not overlap at all, creating a dotted line!

Here's a little chart showing what I just said.

So all you need to do to make a dotted line is to move the dial past 100%! Changing the size of the brush you use will also effect how your dotted line appears. Experiment!
